 Synopsis
It is the first novel in The Kane Chronicles, which writes about the adventures of modern day fourteen-year-old Carter Kane and twelve-year-old Sadie Kane, as they discover that they are descended from the ancient Egyptian pharaohs Narmer and Ramesses the Great. Soon, Carter becomes a host of Horus, and Sadie becomes a host of Isis, because of the symbols of the sibling's amulets: Carter, the Eye of Horus, Sadie, the Knot of Isis. Their father, Julius Kane, attempts to summon Osiris, but through the Rosetta Stone releases the five children of the Demon Days: Horus, Set, Isis, and Nephthys. Osiris is confined by Set. Soon, Carter and Sadie scramble to Phoenix, Arizona, where they attempt to kill Set, and destroy his red pyramid.
While set in the same time period as Riordan's Percy Jackson & the Olympians series, there is very little interaction between the Egyptian and Greek gods. When they arrive in Manhattan, Amos mentions the city having its own set of gods and that they must not be angered, looking at the Empire State Building as he said this - a clear reference to the gods in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians books. Also when in Thoth's office Thoth says "They even renamed my city Hermopolis. And if you've ever met Hermes...".
